The Ultra 3 is Apple’s biggest and toughest watch. It launched at $649. Today it’s $549 at Best Buy as a Doorbuster, in stock, checked 6 November. That $100 cut is what turns this from a watch you admire into a watch you can justify. These are first impressions from Apple’s official specs and the verified price — not hands-on testing.
What you’re actually getting
A 49mm titanium case with GPS and Cellular, an S10 chip and 64GB of storage. The display is an LTPO3 OLED, 422 by 514 pixels, up to 3,000 nits — the brightest display on any Apple Watch. Battery life is up to 42 hours in normal use and up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode, on Apple’s figures. It’s a big watch. 49mm is not for small wrists, and it doesn’t pretend to be.

What the $549 price changes
At $649, the Ultra 3 was $99 more than the Garmin Venu 4 at $549.99. At $549, it’s $0.99 cheaper than the Venu 4. The price argument flips. The Doorbuster label means the price may not last — if you want it at $549, that’s the window. Who it’s for, and who should skip it
This is for iPhone owners who want the longest battery life in an Apple Watch, the brightest display, and a watch that can take a knock — runners, hikers, anyone who spends long days away from a charger.
Skip it if you’re on Android: the Ultra 3 only works fully with an iPhone. Skip it if you want a small, light watch — 49mm of titanium is a presence on the wrist. And if you don’t need cellular or the 3,000-nit display, the Watch SE 3 at $239.99 at Amazon.com (checked 6 November) does the everyday job for less than half the price. The trade-offs
It’s big, and it’s not cheap even at $549. The battery is excellent for a smartwatch at 42 hours, but a Garmin will go longer. And the Doorbuster price is a limited window — at $649, the value case is weaker.
CompareIdea verdict
At $549, the Ultra 3 is the pick for iPhone owners who want Apple’s toughest, longest-lasting watch — the price cut removes the main reason to hesitate. If you’re on Android, or you want a smaller watch, or you don’t need cellular and the brightest display, the Venu 4 at $549.99 or the Watch SE 3 at $239.99 is the better buy. The Ultra 3 wins on battery and brightness for iPhone owners; it loses on size, and on price if you don’t need what makes it an Ultra.
