What a First Impressions review is

When a product launches, we analyse its official specification sheet, launch pricing and positioning against its closest rivals. A First Impressions piece answers three questions: what is it, who is it for, and does the specification justify the price?

What we check

  • The full official specification, cross-checked against at least one independent database or reputable publication (such as GSMArena, 91mobiles or the brand’s own store listing).
  • Official launch pricing for the relevant market, and — separately — the street prices we verify on retailer pages.
  • The closest rival products at the same price, compared specification by specification.
  • What is missing: the compromises (a weaker camera, slower charging, fewer updates) that launch presentations tend to skip.

How a verdict is reached

A verdict weighs the specification per unit of price against the rival set, the brand’s update and service commitments where documented, and the gap between launch price and street price. Every comparison ends with a plain recommendation — buy this, buy that instead, or wait.

Why no scores

Scores are reserved for products we have physically tested (see our Editorial Policy). Spec-based coverage gets a reasoned verdict, not a number.

Sources

Each review and comparison ends with a Sources section linking the official product page or spec sheet and the independent sources used, so you can check our working.
