The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is $549 at Best Buy today, down $100 from $649 in a Doorbuster deal. The Garmin Venu 4 is $549.99 at the same store, down $5.50. Ninety-nine cents separate them, both in stock, both checked on 6 November 2026. So this comparison is not about price. It is about what you give up when you pick one, because at this price the two watches disagree about almost everything else.

The divide is battery life.

Start with the number that changes how you live with the watch. Garmin rates the 45mm Venu 4 at up to 12 days in smartwatch mode, or 4 days with the always-on display on. Apple rates the Ultra 3 at up to 42 hours of normal use, or up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. That is not a small gap. The Venu 4 is a watch you charge roughly once a fortnight; the Ultra 3 is a watch you charge every day or two, with a fast top-up — about 80 percent in 45 minutes — to soften it. If you hate charging, the decision is already made. If you charge your phone every night anyway, the Ultra 3’s shorter life is a habit, not a burden.

What the extra dollar buys on the Apple side.

The Ultra 3 is the bigger, tougher watch: a 49mm titanium case against the Venu 4’s 45mm case, with GPS and cellular built in, so it can take calls and stream music without your phone nearby. Its display is an Always-On Retina LTPO3 OLED at 422 by 514 pixels, reaching up to 3,000 nits at peak brightness under a flat sapphire crystal. It runs on Apple’s S10 chip with 64GB of storage. The catch is the obvious one for a Garmin comparison: it is an Apple Watch, so it only works with an iPhone. Android owners cannot use it at all.

What the Venu 4 answers with.

The Venu 4’s case is smaller and lighter at 45mm, with a 1.4-inch AMOLED display at 454 by 454 pixels and a built-in LED flashlight. It is rated 5 ATM for swimming, and it works with iPhone and Android alike through the Garmin Connect app. Where the Ultra 3 sells you independence from your phone, the Venu 4 sells you independence from the charger and from Apple’s ecosystem — plus Garmin’s health and training tracking, which is the reason most people buy a Garmin in the first place. What it does not have is cellular: leave your phone behind and the Venu 4 is a fitness watch, not a phone on your wrist.

Who should buy which.

Buy the Apple Watch Ultra 3 if you carry an iPhone and want the watch to stand in for your phone — calls, messages and music with no phone in range — and you are happy charging it as often as your phone. At $549 it is also, by a dollar, the cheaper of the two today. Buy the Garmin Venu 4 if you train seriously and want twelve days between charges, or if you use an Android phone, in which case the Ultra 3 is not an option at any price. The $549.99 price is a dollar more, and that dollar buys you nothing — the battery and the platform freedom are what you are paying for.

CompareIdea verdict

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the pick for iPhone owners: cellular, titanium and a brighter display for a dollar less than the Garmin, and the $100 drop is the reason to buy it now rather than later. The trade-off is real — you will charge it every day or two, and it will never work with an Android phone. The Garmin Venu 4 is the pick for everyone else: twelve days of battery and freedom from Apple’s ecosystem, for a dollar more. If you own an Android phone, there is no contest; if you own an iPhone and hate charging, the Venu 4 still wins your wrist. We do not publish scores for products we have not hands-on tested.
