MacBook Pro M6 First Impressions: Faster Chip, Same Great Laptop, Steep Price

Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch (M6)

Our verdict, up front: the MacBook Pro M6 is the fastest 14-inch MacBook Pro Apple has ever made, and the easiest to talk yourself out of — because at ₹2,39,900, it costs a lot more than the machine it replaces did at launch. This is a first-impressions review based on Apple’s official specifications and reputable reports, not a hands-on test: we have not used this laptop, and nothing here pretends otherwise.

Apple announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on 27 October 2026. Pre-orders opened on 28 October, and it goes on sale in India on 6 November, priced from ₹2,39,900 (₹2,27,900 with education pricing). The base model has 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD.

What the MacBook Pro M6 changes

The change that matters is the chip. The M6 has a 12-core CPU — two new “super” cores, four performance cores and six efficiency cores — and a 12-core GPU, two more cores on each side than the M5. Apple claims graphics up to 30% faster and AI workloads up to 25% faster than the M5, with a 16-core Neural Engine for on-device AI work in macOS 27. Memory starts at 16GB, up to 32GB. In plain terms: a meaningful jump for code, video and local AI work, and a modest one for email and browsing.

Everything else is familiar: the 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, up to 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness, ProMotion up to 120Hz. Connectivity improves to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Ports, camera and speakers are unchanged. Apple changed the engine, not the car.

Where the MacBook Pro M6 wins

Battery life is the headline number: Apple claims up to 24 hours, the longest it has ever rated a Mac. That figure comes from Apple’s video-playback test, so treat it as a best case — but even a large discount leaves a laptop that outlasts a working day away from power. The display remains one of the best on any laptop at any price.

Where it could lose

Price, first and always. ₹2,39,900 buys the base configuration only, and fast charging to 50% in about 30 minutes needs a higher-wattage adapter than the 70W one in the box. The MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display and touch, arriving the same week from ₹3,49,900, costs over a lakh more — a different purchase, not a reason to dismiss the M6. The Windows alternative arriving this week is the ASUS Zenbook 14 (2026) series, launching in India on 5 November with Snapdragon, AMD and Intel options — but its price is not announced yet, so no comparison can honestly be made today. What specifications cannot tell us is how hot the M6 runs under sustained load, or how the 24-hour claim holds up in real use — both need a hands-on test.

Pros and cons

Pros: a genuinely faster M6 chip with more cores; up to 24 hours of claimed battery life; the superb Liquid Retina XDR display; Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6; 1TB of storage in the base model.

Cons: a steep ₹2,39,900 starting price; fast charging needs a higher-wattage adapter than the one in the box; no design change over the previous model; the touchscreen PROLED model arriving the same week may tempt buyers to wait.

Verdict: buy it for the work, not the badge

Buy the MacBook Pro M6 if you do demanding work — video, code, photography, local AI — and you want the fastest 14-inch Mac in a proven body with all-day battery life. Wait if you are tempted by the touchscreen PROLED model, or if your work is light enough that Apple’s own MacBook Air would do it for far less. Skip it if you need Windows software or a touchscreen at this price. See the MacBook Pro 14-inch (M6) product page, and remember the launch price is not the street price. Verdict: a superb laptop that earns its price on performance, not on novelty.
