OnePlus 15 First Impressions: the $1,029 flagship that bets everything on battery and speed

The OnePlus 15 is $1,029.00 at Amazon.com for the 12GB + 256GB model in Infinite Black, in stock, checked 8 November 2026. It was announced on 27 October 2025, and it is the most single-minded flagship OnePlus has made in years: the biggest battery and the fastest chip the company has shipped, in a phone that costs $330 more than the Google Pixel 11. First impressions from OnePlus’s official specifications; we have not hands-on tested the phone.

The battery is the argument

The headline is a 7,300mAh silicon-carbon battery — the biggest OnePlus has ever put in a phone, and the biggest of any flagship in our verified listing. The next largest we track, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, carries 5,000mAh. Charging is 120W wired and 50W wireless, so the large cell is not a slow one to refill. If there is one reason to pay $1,029 for this phone instead of $699 for a Pixel 11, it is this: the OnePlus 15 is built for people who run their phone hard all day and do not want to think about the battery. Everything else on the spec sheet is supporting cast for that bet.

165Hz, with an asterisk

The display is a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED at 1,272 x 2,772, running between 1Hz and 120Hz in normal use and reaching 165Hz in supported games. That last clause matters: the headline refresh rate is a gaming feature, not an everyday one. In daily use the panel is a 120Hz screen, which is the same as the Pixel 11 and the Galaxy S26. The 165Hz mode is real — OnePlus pairs it with a dedicated gaming engine and a low-latency touch chip — but it only appears when a game supports it. Buy the phone for the battery; treat the 165Hz as a bonus for gaming, not a reason on its own.

The chip and the cameras

Underneath is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the fastest mobile chip Qualcomm makes, with Android 16 and OxygenOS 17 on top. The cameras are a triple 50MP set — a main camera with optical stabilisation, a 3.5x telephoto and an ultrawide — plus a 32MP front camera, and OnePlus claims the first 4K 120fps Dolby Vision video on an Android phone. The body is rated IP69K, the toughest water and dust rating on a phone we track. None of this is the reason to buy the phone over its rivals; all of it is the reason the phone does not feel like a compromise once you have paid for the battery.

The $1,029 question

The honest comparison is the Pixel 11 at $699.00 at Best Buy for the 256GB model in Obsidian, unlocked, checked 8 November 2026. The $330 gap buys the 7,300mAh battery, the 120W charging, the gaming display and the faster chip. It does not buy a better camera on the published figures — the Pixel 11’s case is its camera and its price, and our own first impressions called it the best camera phone at its price. So the OnePlus 15’s price only makes sense if the battery is the thing you actually run out of. If you charge overnight and your phone survives the day comfortably, the Pixel 11 keeps $330 in your pocket and gives up nothing you will notice.
